]]> ISRO launches 5 – Day Free Online Course on Understanding of Coastal Ocean Processes using Remote Sensing and Numerical Modeling.

Overview: 

“Understanding of coastal ocean processes using remote sensing and numerical modeling,” is the new free course being offered by ISRO, through its center Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).

The course aims to educate researchers on how satellite remote sensing is proving to be helpful in observing the coastal ocean processes and understanding its dynamics.

Who can apply?

  • Students in their final year of an undergraduate degree, or any year of their postgraduate degree can apply for this course.
  • Technical/ Scientific Staff of Central/ State Government/Faculty/researchers at university/institutions are also eligible to apply for this course.
  • Professionals, students/researchers from various Central/State Govt./Universities/Private Organisations/NGO engaged in marine science/oceanography research/studies can also apply.

What will you learn?

  • Understanding of coastal ocean processes through geo-informatics.
  • An introduction to numerical ocean modeling.
  • Application of numerical modelling to study the ocean circulation and marine biogeochemistry.
  • Modelling of ocean productivity through remote sensing data.
  • Role of ocean for tropical cyclone tracking using NWP mode

The Minsitry has announced an Innovation Challenge for Development of a Video Conferencing Solution under Digital India Initiative.

Video Conferencing Solution must have Features but not limited to the few indicated below:

  • The solution must support all video resolutions and audio quality, should work in low and
    high network scenarios and not have any external hardware dependency.
  • Users must be able to chat option during conference, even the multi people conference.
  • Should have sign-in and non-sign-in options to join a conference
  • Can be browser and/or app based interface with screen/file sharing capabilities
  • Audio to close captioning during chat (multilingual)
  • Should have capabilities to host multiple concurrent conferences having multiple participants in each conference

Various stages for development of  Video Conferencing Solution

  1. Ideation (Stage-1): Teams will have to propose their innovative and cutting edge
    ideas of their solution. Top 10 teams would be selected from this stage. Each
    team will receive a funding of INR 5 Lakh to build the prototype.
  2. Prototype (Stage-2): Build the prototype of the solution. These shortlisted
    entries from Stage-1 will get a chance to present their prototypes to a
    distinguished Jury. Top 3 teams will be shortlisted for the Final Stage. Each team
    will receive a funding of INR 20 Lakh to build the solution.
  3. Solution Building (Final Stage): The winner will get a fixed amount of INR 1
    Crore along with certificate from the Hon’ble Minister of Electronics & IT towards
    deploying the solution for use by Government of India and State Governments for
    a year and further support @ Rs 10 lakhs per year towards Operations &
    Maintenance.

]]> Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that are transmitted between animals and people which causes illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases.

Okay.. so how is COVID -19 different from CoV: Corona virus disease abbreviated as COVID-19 is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans.

Is Corona Virus (CoV) new to the Human Race: No, these viruses have been responsible for several outbreaks around the world in the past in different forms as follows:
Corona Virus had come back in the form of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) pandemic of 2002-2003.

(which was initially informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China).

While some corona viruses have caused devastating epidemics, others cause mild to moderate respiratory infections, like the common cold. Several known corona viruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. Now since, you have come this far, why not get fully educated about corona!

What are the Common signs of corona viruses infection?

  • It includes respiratory symptoms, fever, headache, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
  • In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Rarer symptoms include dizziness, nausea, vomiting and a runny nose.
  • In a subset of individuals, including those with cardiopulmonary disease or a weakened immune system, the viral infection can progress to a more severe lower-respiratory infection such as pneumonia or bronchitis.

Any recommendations to prevent the infection?!

Standard recommendations to prevent the infection spread include the following common sense steps:

  • Regular hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Wash every time after going to a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer.
  • Avoiding touching your face, eyes and mouth. If you have this habit, make other activities in your left hand such as (bathroom, lift ,door knobs etc) where as eating etc from your right hand.
  • Cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
  • Thoroughly cooking food before consumption
  • Avoid close contact with anyone; especially with people showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
  • Distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.
  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; throw used tissues in the trash.
  • If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve but never into your hands.
  • Make your immune system strong.

How does the corona virus actually spread?

Corona viruses can be transmitted between humans through respiratory droplets that infected people expel when they breathe, cough or sneeze.

The viruses generally cannot survive for more than a few hours on surfaces outside a human host, but people can pick up a corona virus from a contaminated surface for a short window of time.

How long is the incubation period of the corona virus, i.e. the period between infection by the virus and appearance of the first symptoms?

The incubation period of the corona virus is 2–14 days before signs of disease. Therefore it’s advisable to stay home for 14 days from the time you left an area with widespread, ongoing community spread (Level 3 Travel Health Notice countries) and practice social distancing.

Social Distancing and Steps to monitor your health:

  • Record your temperature with a thermometer two times a day and monitor for fever. Also watch for cough or trouble breathing.
  • Stay home and avoid contact with others.
  • Do not report to office or anywhere for this 14-day period.
  • Discuss your work situation with your employer before returning to work.
  • Do not take public transportation, taxis, or ride-shares during the time you are practicing social distancing.
  • Avoid crowded places (such as shopping centers and movie theaters) and limit your activities in public.
  • Keep your distance from others (about 6 feet or 2 meters).
  • Now that the new corona virus and COVID-19, the illness it causes, are spreading among communities across countries, phrases such as “social distancing,” “self-quarantine” are showing up in the media.

So what exactly is Quarantine and how is it different from Isolation?

Quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms.

Health experts recommend that self-quarantine lasts 14 days. Two weeks provides enough time for them to know whether or not they will become ill and be contagious to other people.

Self-quarantine involves:

  • Using standard hygiene and washing hands frequently
  • Not sharing things like towels and utensils
  • Staying at home
  • Not having visitors
  • Staying at least 6 feet away from other people in your household
  • Once your quarantine period has ended, if you do not have symptoms, follow your doctor’s instructions on how to return to your normal routine.

Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy. Isolation restricts the movement of ill persons to help stop the spread of certain diseases.

Also, the corona virus pandemic is making everyone aware of hand washing and protecting others from coughs and sneezes. Along with those essential steps, practices such as social distancing, and self-quarantine and isolation when appropriate can slow the rate of infection in a city, town or community.
The pandemic can seem overwhelming, but in truth, every person can help slow down the spread of COVID-19. By doing your part, you can make a big difference to your health, and that of others around you.

How Self quarantine can make a DIFFERENCE?!

Maybe this corona virus-enforced lock down or slowdown is the perfect opportunity to make the best use for self-improvisation and self enhancement. For instance, much like the corona virus pandemic ravaging the globe right now, Isaac Newton too had witnessed a serious illness during his time.

Facts Vs Fiction regarding CoVID 19!

At this point in the story, it’s worth mentioning that cyber-criminals exploit the corona virus panic by creating hundreds of fraudulent websites, selling fake information and home test kits to steal people’s data and money. Cyber security experts reported that since January more than 4,000 corona virus-related domains have been registered and about 300 of them are believed to be ‘malicious’ or ‘suspicious’.

Fictions/Myths regarding the COVID 19 includes, but not restricted to are:

MYTH 1: Experts have mentioned that the “hold your breath for 10 seconds” test is totally nonsense.

As Most young patients with corona virus will be able to hold their breaths for much longer than 10 seconds and many elderly without the virus won’t be able to do it.
Getting COVID-19 is a death sentence.

That’s not true.

About 81% of people who are infected with the corona virus have mild cases of COVID-19, About 13.8% report severe illness, meaning they have shortness of breath, or require supplemental oxygen, and about 4.7% are critical, meaning they face respiratory failure, multi-organ failure or septic shock. The data thus far suggests that only around 2.3% of people infected with COVID-19 die from the virus. People who are older or have underlying health conditions seem to be most at risk of having severe disease or complications.

MYTH 2: It’s not safe to receive a package from China

False!

It is safe to receive letters or packages from China, according to the World Health Organization as research has found that corona viruses don’t survive long on objects such as letters and packages.

The surfaces present in packaging are not ideal for the virus to survive. For a virus to remain viable, it needs a combination of specific environmental conditions such as temperature, lack of UV exposure and humidity — a combination you won’t get in shipping packages.

MYTH 3: The intensity of COVID-19 would taper down with high temperatures.

False.

The impact of the virus is as serious in hot-humid weather conditions of Singapore as in the colder environment of European countries.

MYTH 4: Do face masks protect against transmission?

No, a face mask does not protect a healthy person from getting COVID-19. If you are ill, a face mask may to some extent prevent droplets from spreading around you when you cough or sneeze.

Tesla is into self driving vehicles which needs some artificial intelligence geeks to work alongside Elon himself. Autopilot features are the hot cake at Tesla’s R&D center where few of the worlds best engineer’s are currently working with AI. The hardware used in this will be heavily driven by various software updates and hence the call for a party.

Tesla are hiring for world-class chip designers to join their team, based in both Palo Alto & Austin. Elon Musk took it to twitter on last Sunday and announced about the AI Party/Hackathon inviting all the engineers and AI enthusiasts to take part with Tesla artificial intelligence and autopilot team. Check out the tweet below.

Indeed without any doubt the tweet went viral and started pouring down with all possible replies from every corner of the world. Out of all, one Twitter user replied asking if he needed a PhD in AI technology to attend the party. Check out what Elon replied:

Skill set to crack the AI Party/Hackathon at Tesla:

As per another tweet from Elon Musk, “Our Neural Network is initially in Python for rapid iteration, then converted to C++/C/raw metal driver code for speed (important!). Also, tons of C++/C engineers needed for vehicle control & entire rest of car. Educational background is irrelevant, but all must pass hardcore coding test.” Although not clearly specified on where will the party hosted, but this is definitely worth a try.

  • The program contains various categories ranging from Physics to humanities, computer organisation to management related topics.
  • Currently, there are 226 courses mentioned for the period of Jan-April 2018 followed by the test for people interested in certification.
  • After every program, there will be a weekly assessment test
  • At the end of the program, you can even attend a certification test in that particular course. (there is a fee involved to take the test)

  1. Access their website: https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/
  2. Register with a valid Gmail id. They also have a hangout group where you can discuss with respective lecturers/professors.
  3. To register, click on Login button on right side and follow the instructions.
  4. On successful registration, you must be able to login to the application.
  5. From the home page, select a particular category and course you are willing to take up. Example: In the below screenshot, we selected the category as “Management Studies and Course” as “Business Analytics and Data mining Modeling usng R”.

Steps to apply for FRESHERS openings at TCS:

  1. Click on https://nextstep.tcs.com/campus/ 
  2. Click on ‘REGISTER NOW’. On click of register now you will see the below screenshot.
  3. Click on IT/BPS based on your preferences. Assuming you are interested in IT, click on the same.
  4. You will be redirected to a registration page as shown below where you need to fill the basic details.
  5. Once you have successfully filled all details, click on Submit. On click of Submit button and successful submission, you will get below-displayed screenshot.
  6. Click on continue.
  7. Congratulations, you have successfully registered in the portal but this is not it. You have just registered but you still need to apply for the job openings they have mentioned about.
  8. To log in directly, you can click on https://nextstep.tcs.com/campus/. Do remember the email id and password. This is needed to login later on.

How to apply for the Job Openings for freshers at TCS.

  1. Once you have registered successfully, you will be redirected to the homepage or login yourself with this link. You must be able to see a screen as displayed below.freshers_openings_tcs_homepage
  2. You will be able to see Welcome along with the name and reference id (Marked out in above screenshot). Also, in the menu item, you will see log out option. This confirms that you have logged in.
  3. Important step: On the left side, there is an option ‘Application Form’. Click on the Application form.
  4. On click, you will see all the instructions. Please read all instructions carefully and scroll down. Click on the button ‘Start Filling the Form‘ and start filling out all the details including academic marks, certificates and of course resume. Read our article to avoid mistakes in the fresher resume.
  5. There are four pages/sections. After filling each page/section, click on ‘Save and Continue’.

You feel you love your kid well when you gift a smartphone at an age of 14-15 but don’t have time for them or to understand them. With gadgets, bikes and other expensive gizmos what you don’t realize is that you not only introduce them to a whole new world which includes both good as well as bad but it also includes the games like ‘the blue whale challenge’ as well.

What is Blue Whale Challenge game?

The Blue Whale challenge is called as a game however it is more than just a game. In this game:

  • Normally, the game extends over 50 days.
  • This game is played between a player and an admin.
  • The players are given 50 tasks/challenges by the admin and clearing one challenge leads to the next. (E.g. of tasks: Climb a crane, wake up at 4:20 AM and walk on the road, Self-mutilation etc).
  • After every challenge is cleared, they need to provide a photographic or video evidence to the admin.
  • At any point, if the player wants to get out of the game he will be threatened and emotionally blackmailed as they hack/grab all the information about the player when he or she enrolls for the game.
  • The game ends with the final challenge where the player is asked to commit suicide in order to win the game.

The Blue Whale challenge game is famous with below terminologies and hashtags as well:

Where can you access or download the blue whale challenge game?

No such website or app in play store or web store exists. There is no downloadable as such; it’s just based on the conversation between the admin and the player. These people are members of various groups/pages on social media sites and they look for victims in such groups. Bullied, weak-hearted, depressed teenagers are an easy target for these people.

Once a victim has been trapped, they are attacked psychologically and brain washed to accept the invitation for the challenge. The moment a person accepts the game, all his/her personal details will be hacked and stored. As and when the player clears the levels, the trust factor increases which is in turn tested by giving self-harming / weird challenges.

How to find out if your child is a victim of the blue whale challenge game?

  • The gamers are experts in psychology and they can manipulate the teenagers to adapt for the game. E.g. they convince girls that they are fat and boys that they are losers and good for nothing.
  • Every time they complete a task, they are asked to self-harm/self-injure their body parts. As a parent, check for their body parts if they have cuts (esp. hands, legs, and thigh).
  • Is your child indulged in the continuous use of laptop/mobile (say a day or more)? Then, beware of what they are doing.
  • Is he or she always alone and not talking to anyone from few days but always using their laptop or mobile phones?
  • Check your child’s mental ability. Check various apps and websites he or she uses. Look for what they search in google via browser history.
  • Below is a set of questionnaire/tasks likely to be given to a player. You can check if any of the following is followed/repeated by your child.

Questions likely to be asked in Blue Whale Challenges are:

 A user in a website posted the below list of tasks which were likely asked questions:

  1. Cut / Carve with blade or glass to carve “f57” or “F57” on your hand.
  2. Wake up at 4.20 AM and watch scary videos sent by admin.
  3. Carve / Cut your arm with a blade / broken glass / or any sharp material.
  4. Draw a whale on a sheet of paper, send a photo to the curator.
  5. If you are ready to “become a whale”, carve “YES” on your leg. If not, cut yourself many times (punish yourself).
  6. The task with a cipher.
  7. Make ‘F40’ or ‘f40’ on your hand.
  8. Type “#i_am_whale” in VKontakte status / instagaram / any other social media profile.
  9. You must overcome your fear.

  13. Listen to music that “they” (curators) send you.
  14. Cut your lip or any other body parts.
  15. Poke your hand with a needle many times.
  16. Do something painful to yourself, make yourself sick.
  17. Go to the highest peak of any building, stand on the edge for some time.
  18. Stand at the edge of the bridge.
  19. Climb up a crane or at least try to climb.
  20. The curator checks if you are trustworthy.
  21. Have a talk “with a whale” (with another player like you or with a curator) in Skype.
  22. Climb to the terrace or any tall building around and sit on the edge with your legs dangling.
  23. Another task with a cipher.
  24. Secret task.
  25. Have a meeting with a “whale.”
  26. The curator tells you the date of your death and you have to accept it.
  27. Wake up at 4:20 a.m. and go to rails (visit any railroad that you can find).
  28. Don’t talk to anyone all day.
  29. Make a vow that “you’re a whale.”
  30. 30-49 tasks: Every day you need to wake up at 4:20 AM, watch videos (horror/psychic/hurting) etc., listen to audio clips, sounds, music your admin sends you, self-harm by making a cut on your body, talk “to a whale.”
  1. Finally, Commit SUICIDE.

It’s likely to be true that your child is not a victim but a lot of time teenagers don’t reveal anything to their parents. Sometimes, even parents don’t have time for their own kids and when horrifying cases like this occur every parent panics.

Precautionary measures one can take to avoid the Blue whale challenge or any such psychological imbalance to kids:

  • Digital literacy: With digitalization, a whole new set of problems have come and parents need to be familiar with the impact on kids.
  • Both parents, as well as children, must be aware of digital media’s risks along with opportunities.
  • A need of internet safety is important. There are lot of software available in the market which can restrict the websites accesses by you / your kids.
  • Understand your child’s psychological moves. His habits, the way he interacts etc.
  • Keep a track of what your child does in the internet world. One bad connection, one greedy link, one suspicious click is more than sufficient to spoil your system with a virus attack or push your child into the bad world.
  • Teach your children to tell NO. I agree it’s very difficult to make them open up but it’s necessary. Train them not to be scared or get bullied or emotionally blackmailed by any threats.
  • In the blue whale challenge game, if players want to quit half way, they are threatened that their parents will be harmed or so. Lets your children know about
  • Speak to them about the blue whale challenge or any similar horrific things that come up in the internet world.
  • Interact with them, spend time with them, listen to them; children are very sensitive and one wrong parenting strategy can let the children open few bad doors.

A lot of sources around the globe report about teens committing suicide, likely to be victims of the blue whale challenge game or similar games:

According to Novaya Gazeta, Russian news channels 130 children have committed suicide in Russia alone and coincidently Almost all of them were members of the same group on the Internet. Also, the brain behind this game is arrested. However, the game has spread far beyond this and there would be a lot of such notorious minds sitting just to continue the exploitation.

Lastly:

There is still a lot of debate going on whether the blue whale challenge is the only reason for suicides or not. Irrespective of that, in the dark web world a lot of ‘the blue whale challenge’ may exist and the need of the hour is to build a strong bond between the parent and the child. It’s better to take precautions than repenting in the future. Teachers at schools and college must make every student aware of such traits where they can easily fall prey.

Today, it’s the blue whale challenge tomorrow it could be something else. But, the core point is it attacks you mentally / psychologically. Hence, one must constantly ask themselves ‘Is your child depressed’ and take proper measures; hence, not allow any scope for such barbaric incident to take place.

How to use SARAHAH app effectively:

  2. Hack the sarahah database: The toughest way to find out is to get an access to the sarahah database. Once you succeed in that, then search by username and see the message received and check for the username/email id attached to that particular message.
  3. Cyber police: This is a risky business but however if you are receiving some death/rape threats or anything really sensitive and risky, then the police can register a complaint and try to track back.

None the less, Sarahah as a company/product is running a very good business as of now. A lot of such apps have always existed from time to time but most of them short lived. Sarahah is an app which perfectly hit the point of right time to market. A 5.02 MB app in you android store having approximate 10 million downloads is surely worth a try.
