Direct and Indirect Speech

Explanation/ Important formulas:

Instruction:

  • If in direct speech you find say/says or will say then DO NOT CHANGE THE TENSE that you can find within the quotation marks.
  • One should change time Expression (i.e now-then, today-that day etc).
  • One can use Conjunction ‘that’ is often used before the indirect sentence.
  • That is never used in sentences reporting questions, instead we often use ‘if’.

E.g.: He asked me if I would come to the party.
