Frustration could occur anywhere at any time. Since a lot of our valuable time is spent in office/work, there are a lot of chances for frustration to build there. Hence, beware of these causes for frustration and address them before it hinders the productivity.

A little thought on your daily activity can help to a large extent to win a battle against frustration. Below mentioned are few of the causes that we believe if taken care on daily basis would help you keep your frustration fever under control.

Ignorance: If your boss / SPOC (single point of contact) doesn’t consider your inputs; shows more preferences on other (intentionally or unintentionally) and if you feel you are being ignored that would be one of the causes for your frustration. SPOC’s need to treat everyone equally and fairly in the team. An employee should have a talk with their reporting managers and discuss over the same.

(No Motivation) Lack of Rewards/Bonuses: Employee frustration is sometimes directly proportionate to motivation. It supports various factors like recognition, stability, growth, remuneration, work-life balance, professionalism etc. Hence reward points, awards, bonus or at-least some motivating words can boost up the employee’s future performance. Recognition and appreciation are expected from the employer. However, employees should be self-motivated as well with the firm belief. As the saying goes “DO GOOD AND GOOD WILL COME TO YOU”.

Unpleasant Salary: At the end, it’s all about the MONEY! Salaries should be based on the current market value. Low salary will never make the person stay long. Of course, salary matters a lot. Check for the recently posted article: New job opportunity or Stick with current one for more information on this factor.

Workplace culture/ethics and work-load: Are you at a place where Man-hours is more important than logic? People who prefer to build things, if asked to build hours often get frustrated. Increased workload for a longer period of time will surely affect the employee’s mindset. There should be enough breaks and perks. Recognitions, Timely reward points and extracurricular activities should be implemented in the organization.

Lack of Communication: Predictions may cost you. Beware. This is valid for both the employee and the manager. SPOC / Employers must assign the task properly with clear instructions without any ambiguities. Maintain periodic communications with your employees. The manager should clarify on the below questions well in advance to his employee. Why is the task important? How to do the task? When to do the task? What is to be done? Etc.

Employees must never hesitate to share your shortcomings with your manager. Nor hesitate to approach SPOC’s on any queries though silly or important. Job Insecurity: Layoffs, pay cuts etc. are signs of an insecure company. Employees with fear of losing the job are really having trust issues with their employer which gives rise to frustration.

Stop being weak at heart.

Don’t get irked easily.

Don’t be over obsessed by anything or anyone.

Family incivility: It is often said that family issues should never be brought to office nor office stress should be taken home but it’s practically very hard to follow (esp. if you are an Indian / Asian). People tend to be weak most of the times. This would again create frustration which isn’t expected.

Petty thoughts/ unusual causes for stress: Though it may sound weird, there are a few who are frustrated by petty things (as listed below) which may not actually frustrate one but can build up due to thinking on similar lines.

Which dress would suit me more?

Hopefully, there are no escalation emails welcoming me!

Would I get a bus/auto/metro soon?

Or should I be waiting long for the same?

Will I face any production issue today?

Will my leave be approved or not?

Overstressing mind is also one cause for frustration. It is advised to spend time thinking about something valuable and useful at work than worrying about something which wouldn’t impact much.

Always remember,

“You alone are responsible for your thoughts, only you can change them”
