Preferred Qualifications For Application Engineer Intern Job Opening at Google:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related technical field.
Experience in one or more general purpose programming languages.
Ability to communicate in English fluently to actively participate in technical discussions.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience programming in Java, C++, or Python.
Experience in systems software or algorithms as well as in SQL, Spring, Hibernate, Web Services (RESTful, SOAP), JavaScript.
Available to work full time for a minimum of 6 months outside of university term time.

Responsibilities:

Build internal solutions, with custom front-ends (e.g., web, mobile) and back-end services that automate business processes. Maintain highest levels of development practices including technical design, solution development, systems configuration, test documentation/execution, issue identification and resolution, writing clean, modular and self-sustaining code.
Help partners in their day-to-day challenges by delivering innovative and scalable solutions, and troubleshooting their problems. Understand operational workflows, identify and define tool needs to enable operational scaling, and drive the development (initial and ongoing) and deployment of these tools with Engineering.
Work closely with analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Integrate third-party products into internal systems as well as support and upgrade implemented systems.
Partner with internal teams to define and implement solutions that improve internal business processes.

Important Info:

Our Winter internships will start in January 2025 and will be 22-24 weeks in duration.
This internship is intended for students who are pursuing the final year in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or a Dual degree program in Computer Science or a related field and will graduate in 2025.

Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Operations Research, Physics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or similar quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Relevant internship or work experience with data. Experience in quantitative methodologies with statistics and causal inference method.
Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, S-Plus, SAS, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, sampling methods.
Experience with machine learning on large datasets.
Ability to draw conclusions from data and recommend actions.
Should have the ability to teach others and learn new techniques such as differential privacy.
Ability to select the right statistical tools given a data analysis problem.

Responsibilities:

Work with large complex data sets, solve difficult non-routine analysis problems, and apply advanced problem-solving methods as needed. Conduct analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables and presentations.
Make business recommendations (e.g. cost-benefit, forecasting, experiment analysis) with effective presentations of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
Research and develop analysis, forecast and optimize methods to improve the quality of Google’s user facing products such as ads quality, search quality, end-user behavioral modeling and live experiments.
Help suggest, support and shape new data-driven and privacy-preserving advertising and marketing products in collaboration with engineering, product and customer-facing teams.
Find ways to combine large-scale experimentation, statistical-econometric, machine learning and social-science methods to answer business questions at scale.
